October is my FAVORITE month! Here are five fun things we did this week!
We started our week off with a fun scarecrow glyph! I got the scarecrow blackline from a page in The Mailbox.
How did I end up with so many angry looking scarecrows??
We started a new math unit on measuring and comparing lengths. We ordered these slithery snakes from longest to shortest and shortest to longest. The kids thought this was so much fun!
Wouldn't his handwriting be the cutest font?!
I finally posted my Interactive Reading Response Journal to TpT! The kids are starting to get the procedure down of cutting around the outside and gluing the flaps. They love using these compared to regular worksheets and journal entries. Check out the preview in my TpT store- this item hits every single RI and RL common core standard for first grade!
I love teaching science! The crazy part is that I was never really interested in science growing up and I never had the urge to teach it. I've discovered so many exciting and hands on science lessons that really make the kids look forward to learning. Today we made aluminum foil "boats" and tested to see how many people (marbles) the boat could hold. They each had the same size piece of foil and only 3 minutes to craft their boat, with no suggestions from me!
We had some very interesting boats..
And this boat was our winner! Her boat held 171 marbles!
And the most exciting part of our week was our Mystery Reader! Every other Friday we have a guest speaker (parents or school faculty) come in and read to the class, but the students don't know who the speaker is until they arrive. Today was a parent reader. It is always so funny to see the child's face when their mom walks in the door!
She brought so many goodies for the kids! They loved it!
I am so lucky to have such a great group of kiddies this year! Can't wait to share more exciting experiences with everyone!
